The purpose of this study is to use quantitative structural MRI to address several fundamental questions regarding the status of morphometric brain alteration in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. This project focuses on six major inter-related questions spanning the origin and progression of the brain alterations, whether they are inherited or not, and their relation to symptom classes and to disease outcome.
The purpose of this study is to extend our structural MRI studies on normal sex differences in schizophrenia, and to examine the neuroanatomy of heterodermal association neocortex and temporo-limbic cortex, and clinico-pathological relationships involving these structures.
